Le fichier services, plus précisément /etc/services, est une compilation des fichiers de services de Windows, OpenBSD, FreeBSD, OpenIndiana, Debian, CentOS, Ubuntu et macOS. Il a pour rôle de rendre un numéro de port humainement lisible qu'ils soient du protocole TCP, UDP, SCTP ou DDP.
Par exemple, on parlera de SNMP au lieu du port 161 sur le protocol UDP, de HTTP au lieu du numéro de port 80 sur le protocole TCP...
L'exhaustivité n'est pourtant pas complète et pour ça, vaut mieux se référer à la documentation liée sur le site de l'IETF. (www.ietf.org)

Le fichier est inséré dans la base de ce site, il suffit par exemple de taper 161 pour savoir que c'est le port SNMP, ou tftp pour constater que le TFTP est de l'UDP et sur le port 69.
